Where I work

I love the steep wooden stairs at 3am.
I love the slanting cracked and peeling walls that make me work for space and distance.
I love the old creaky oak floor splattered with paint.
I love the two windows that face east and west.
One day I won't work in this space but today I celebrate it.
All the painters that came before me working in their attics understand.

last night I slept until 6am...
just like a baby.

I like that song!

Your house looks like an amazing place, and so lovingly documented. Now I miss writing at night...

This is the house I grew up in from 2-18 and then I moved back in when I was 31. My childhood home.
I was about to move my studio outside of my house, downtown- thinking it was a good idea and it may have been but at the last minute I decided not to. In the future perhaps but not now.

So today I celebrate my space.

What keeps you from writing at night? 3am-7am are the magic hours.
(but a complete night of sleep on occasion is enjoyed too...)

Interesting that you didn't take the outside studio opportunity.
I'm glad you didn't - it would have been more work and there's something about the sanctuary of the attic space....
The thing that catches my eye is the reel of wire on the stairs - thats a lot of wire for a lot of paintings :)
These photos represent your love for this place.

Good eye Debs!!
That is a big spool of hanging wire.
I bought that at an artist's estate sale many years ago for $5.00! I have hung every painting with that wire since 2002.Imagine how big it used to be!!! And it has many more paintings to hang in the future.

Thanks for your support as always- there is no place like home...(for now at least)
